“Getting Ready” was an international training course implemented by the Youth Association creACTive in the framework of Youth in Action Programme. The project took place in Ohrid, Macedonia from 22nd to 28th of January 2008; and it gathered 30 young people from Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia, Croatia, Germany, Estonia, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia.
This training course was aimed at providing young people with knowledge and skills necessary for them to work as youth workers. During six days of activities, the young participants had an opportunity to explore topics such as: adolescence, development of a young person, basis of youth work and non-formal education, methodology of youth work, motivation of young people, techniques of working with individual and a group. They were engaged in small group work, presentations, discussions, simulation exercises and other activities that were expected to contribute for their understanding of non-formal education and youth work; and eventually for increasing the quality of their future projects.
Target group of “Getting Ready” was young youth workers, involved in the work of their organizations directly with young people. During our previous work, we have noticed that there are many organizations that are encouraging young people to get involved in their work as youth workers, but only a small number of them offer youth with necessary training and support. Thus, young people are usually found in a situation to begin with implementation of activities for youth without being prepared for that. With this project creACTive aimed to address this issue by providing these young youth workers with basic training of youth work and non-formal education – a tendency that is present in all projects implemented under the Training Action.
Dragan Markoski was the project coordinator of this training course, while the activities were developed by an international team of experienced trainers.
